Project Purpose The Fish Springs Ranch Project will make available additional water supplies to the North Valleys area of Reno-Washoe County, Nevada. This will help meet master-planned water demands by providing new water supplies to enhance regional water resource management for the Truckee Meadows. The proposed project consists of groundwater production wells, a pump station, a transmission pipeline and terminal water storage facilities to convey water from Fish Springs Ranch to the Lemmon Valley/Stead Area. The Fish Springs Ranch Water Project is part of the North Valleys Water Supply Project that is needed to meet the future municipal and industrial water demands in the Lemmon Valley/Stead area north of Reno, Nevada and allow for the enhancement of Truckee River resources.
Comparing Costs The Washoe County Regional Water Planning Commission commissioned a report that re-evaluated the feasibility and potential costs of continuing to supply the North Valleys demands with water from the Truckee River Basin compared with importation of groundwater sources north of Lemmon Valley/Stead from the Fish Springs Ranch and other groundwater sources north of Lemmon Valley/Stead. Study Findings In 2003 dollars, rebuilding the water main and increasing the exportation of water from the Truckee River would cost approximately $10,860/AF. North Valleys Water Supply Project using Fish Springs Ranch water would cost approximately $8,650/AF. (Based on 2003 projections.) |
